  • The Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA) and the Private Cancer Physicians of Australia (PCPA) invite you to attend the Association’s Annual Scientific Meeting-Personalised Medical Oncology,to be held at the Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney, 12-13 August 2010.   • The Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA) invites medical practitioners and professionals working in oncology and related areas, to attend Best of ASCO® 2010 Australia, to experience the latest in cutting-edge oncology research and science from the world’s premier oncology event on, Saturday 14 August 2010 at the Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney. This one day program presents the latest advances in oncology research from the 2010 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).   • The International Union Against Cancer (UICC) invites you to attend 2010 World Cancer Congress, being held from 18-21 August 2010 at Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Centre, Shenzhen, China. It will focus on primary prevention, screening and early detection, treatment and management, supportive care, end of life, as well as on how programmes, infrastructures and resources are integrated into existing delivery systems. Best practices and the challenges of maximizing effectiveness, efficiency and outreach in different resource settings will be an important aspect of dialogue and debate.   • Following the success of the first two courses, Cancer Pharmacists Group of Australia again offer the Clinical Skills for Cancer Pharmacy Practitioners course on 21-22 August 2010 at the Novotel Hotel, Brisbane. Designed to assist pharmacists in developing their clinical skills in cancer pharmacy practice, the 2-day course combines informative lectures with interactive workshops to assist practioners in developing their skills and abilities in the many processes involved in providing cancer treatment to patients. The course is aimed at pharmacists who are already working in the area of cancer but have less than 2 years experience. $440 for CPG members or $495 for non members.   • The Melbourne School of Health Sciences, in conjunction with Cancer Social Work Victoria and endorsed by Oncology Social Work Australia, is offering the postgraduate subject, Psychosocial Practice in Oncology, as an intensive over four days – 26th, 27th, 28th, 30th August 2010 at 234 Queensberry Street, Carlton, Melbourne. The focus of this subject is on the theoretical paradigms, and the political, economic and social determinants of psychosocial practice associated with Oncology. Advances in cancer care and the relevance of these in relation to life stresses and quality of life have resulted in the increased importance of psychosocial issues on assessment intervention and recovery. The subject will include the impact of cancer on the developmental stage of the individual, family and interpersonal relationships as well as issues related to survivorship and the management of cancer as a chronic illness. Professionals working in multidisciplinary cancer care teams are in a unique position to respond to the needs of people who have been diagnosed with cancer and their carers. This subject will aim to strengthen their capacity to respond effectively and appropriately from a psychosocial service perspective.   • As part of awareness activities during 2010: The Year of The Lung, The Australian Lung Foundation will host commemorative Tree Planting events around Australia in July and August, The current national statistics for the loss of life to lung cancer will be reflected in a National Tree Planting event in Canberra on Sunday 29 August 2010. 790 trees will be planted – each tree representing 10 Australians who die from lung cancer each year. Patients, their families and carers and lung cancer health professionals are invited to get down and get dirty to help raise the profile of lung cancer across the nation.   • Satellite broadcast: Tuesday 31st August 2010 (NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS - 8.00pm; SA - 7.30pm; QLD - 7.00pm; NT - 6.30pm; WA - 6pm), Secondary Breast Cancer: Finding breast cancer outside the breast is an online forum program funded by National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre (NBOCC), this program considers some of the challenges in management of secondary breast cancer, recent developments in treatment and the psychosocial and supportive care needs of women and their families. A number of new resources for women with secondary breast cancer and their families, developed by the National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre, are also discussed.   • The Australia and Asia Pacific Clinical Oncology Research Development (ACORD) Workshop, will be held from 12-17 September 2010, Sunshine Coast. This Workshop provides comprehensive training in clinical trials design and access to a world-class expert faculty for participants from any cancer related specialty from Australia, Asia Pacific and beyond. A faculty of eighteen international and Australian specialists will join the 60 selected participants from countries including China, Japan, Taiwan, Pakistan, India, Canada, Singapore and the US at this year’s Workshop.
