Train the Trainer

Train the Trainer is a practical video guide to assist professional development coordinators to use the Cancer Learning website to:

  • draft an overall service professional development plan
  • develop strategies to overcome potential barriers for participants
  • negotiate organisational support for the plan
  • structure relevant learning activities
  • plan an evaluation strategy
  • address implementation issues

Part 1: Getting Started

This initial video presentation launches the Guide to Planning Cancer Professional Development using the Cancer Learning site. It provides information about the objectives of the Train the Trainer program and introduces you to the resources available on the Cancer Learning website.

Part 2: Drafting a Cancer Professional Development Plan

Part 2 guides you through the initial steps of drafting your network PD plan, using the Cancer Professional Development Framework and the Cancer Learning Professional Development planning template to assist you to identify focus areas for your professional development activities.

Part 3: Planning & Carrying out an Evaluation

Part 3 will help you to consider the most effective way to carry out an evaluation of your professional development plan to measure its success in meeting your objectives; looking at various methods of data collection and analysis.

Part 4: Delivering a Professional Development Program

Part 4 addresses the practical and logistical issues you may face when implementing your PD plan and suggests strategies for overcoming them. Two case study examples using the planning template are presented to assist you to finalise your plan.

EdCaN nurse educator resources

To support the implementation of the new EdCaN learning resources that aim to develop the core competencies for nurses working in cancer care identified in the EdCaN National Education Framework for Cancer Nursing, a range of nurse educator resources are available to assist educators to increase capacity amongst students and staff in cancer control.

These include:

  • workshop outlines and presentations for specific cancer types
  • assessment fact sheets
  • competency assessment tools
  • implementation tools to assist educators in their use of the EdCaN learning resources.
